SRINAGAR: National Conference General Secretary and MLA Khanyar Ali Mohammad Sagar on Tuesday said Shahr-e-Khaas deserves special attention owing to its historical significance and dense population, while stressing the need for strengthening civic infrastructure and improving basic services in the old city.

Sagar made the remarks during an extensive tour of several areas of Shahr-e-Khaas, where he reviewed ongoing development works and interacted with residents to assess local issues and grievances.

He said the Omar Abdullah-led government was utilising available resources to improve public welfare and infrastructure, including roads, drainage, drinking water, electricity and healthcare facilities.

“Special attention is being given to improving civic amenities, upgrading roads and strengthening drainage systems in Shahr-e-Khaas. The aim is to ensure that the benefits of development projects reach the people directly,” he said.

During the visit, Sagar paid obeisance at the shrine of Syed Sahib (RA) in Kawdara and met local residents, who raised concerns regarding a long-pending drainage issue in the area. He assured them that the matter would be taken up with the concerned authorities for an early resolution.

The MLA also visited Khwaja Bazaar along with revenue officials and met families affected by a recent fire incident. Expressing solidarity with the victims, he assured them of all possible support and announced financial assistance of ₹80,000 from his Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

Residents appreciated Sagar’s visit and his assurance to pursue the resolution of several long-pending public issues.

Reiterating the National Conference’s commitment to public service, Sagar said the government would continue efforts to address people’s concerns and improve their quality of life.
