SRINAGAR: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday said it had arrested two field supervisors of the Jammu and Kashmir Women’s Development Corporation (JKWDC) for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe from a loan beneficiary.
According to the ACB, the action followed a complaint alleging that Owais Ahmad Khan, a field supervisor with JKWDC, had demanded illegal gratification for facilitating the release of a sanctioned loan of ₹3 lakh under the Women Entrepreneurship Platform (WEP) scheme.
The complainant approached the ACB after allegedly being asked to pay a bribe for the disbursement of the loan amount, the agency said.
Following verification of the complaint, the ACB registered FIR No. 15/2026 under Sections 7 and 7A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Police Station ACB Srinagar and initiated an investigation.
The agency said a trap team was constituted and Khan was allegedly caught red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe from the complainant.
During the operation, another JKWDC field supervisor, Meiraj-ud-Din Sheikh, was also arrested for his alleged involvement in the case. The ACB said the exact nature of his role is being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.
According to the agency, the alleged bribe money was recovered from the possession of the accused in the presence of independent witnesses.
Both officials were subjected to medico-legal formalities and lodged at Police Station Shaheed Gunj, Srinagar, while further investigation is underway.
The allegations are being investigated, and the guilt of the accused will be determined through the legal process.
