Three matches were played on the opening day, with teams competing in a spirited atmosphere.

The volleyball tournament follows a handball competition recently organised at Khushal Sports Stadium, Sopore, as part of a series of sports activities being conducted by the police under CAP 2026-27.

According to police, the initiative is aimed at encouraging local sporting talent, promoting constructive engagement among youth and strengthening interaction between the police and the community. Officials said similar sports and youth-oriented activities would continue to be organised across the district to encourage wider participation in sports.

Meanwhile, police in Awantipora concluded a kabaddi tournament under CAP 2026-27, with participants using the event as a platform to display their sporting skills and competitive spirit.

The participants and winning teams were felicitated with trophies, mementoes, certificates and sports kits. Refreshments were also provided during the concluding function.

Police said the tournament was organised to promote sportsmanship, teamwork and discipline among youth and formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen police-public relations through sports-based engagement programmes.
