SRINAGAR: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch, Kashmir, has filed a chargesheet against a man accused of allegedly defrauding people by promising government jobs and providing forged appointment orders.

According to officials, the chargesheet was filed before the Court of the Forest Magistrate, Srinagar, in FIR No. 12/2026 registered under Sections 420, 468 and 471 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Abdul Majeed Mir of Lishtiyal, Kalaroos, in Kupwara district.

The case was registered following a complaint alleging that the accused had taken a large sum of money from a person on the promise of securing a government job for the complainant’s son. Investigators alleged that Mir subsequently provided an appointment order purportedly issued by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), which was later found to be forged.

The EOW said its investigation substantiated the allegations, following which a chargesheet was presented before the court for judicial proceedings.

Officials further claimed that Mir has been named in 15 criminal cases registered across different parts of the Kashmir Valley. He was arrested on July 18, 2026, and is currently lodged in Central Jail Srinagar.

According to the investigating agency, the accused allegedly impersonated influential individuals and senior bureaucrats to gain the trust of victims and induce them to part with money.

The allegations are under judicial consideration, and the accused is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
