SRINAGAR: Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir Zone, Sujit Kumar on Sunday reviewed the security, law and order and crime situation in Baramulla and Sopore, directing officers to strengthen intelligence gathering and intensify intelligence-based operations against militants and their support networks.
According to police, Kumar, accompanied by Deputy Inspector General of Police, North Kashmir Range, Dr Vinod Kumar, visited Baramulla and chaired a security review meeting attended by senior district police officers.
Before the meeting, the IGP paid tributes at the Martyrs’ Memorial at the District Police Lines, Baramulla.
During the review, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla Gurinderpal Singh briefed the IGP on the prevailing security situation, ongoing counter-terrorism operations, intelligence inputs, area domination measures, security arrangements at vulnerable locations, law and order preparedness and crime-related issues in the district.
Gazetted officers of the district police also presented updates on their respective jurisdictions and operational responsibilities.
The IGP stressed the need for strengthening grassroots intelligence networks and conducting intelligence-driven operations against militants and what police described as the terror ecosystem. He also called for sustained operational pressure, enhanced surveillance, effective naka and interception mechanisms and closer coordination among field units.
As part of the visit, Kumar inspected Police Station Baramulla and reviewed its functioning. He directed officers to ensure professional policing, effective crime prevention and investigation, proper maintenance of records and prompt redressal of public grievances.
Meanwhile, the IGP also reviewed the security and law and order situation in Sopore.
During the review, he reiterated the importance of intelligence-based counter-terror operations, strengthened surveillance, effective checking mechanisms and operational preparedness. He also emphasised greater coordination among security agencies and proactive measures to maintain peace and stability in the area.
Police said the IGP appreciated the efforts of officers and personnel and urged them to continue working with professionalism and vigilance to maintain security and public order across north Kashmir.
