JAMMU: Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Abdul Rahim Rather on Saturday reviewed the progress of construction of the new Legislative Assembly Complex and directed executing agencies to accelerate work to ensure completion of the project by October 2027.
During an inspection of the project site, officials briefed the Speaker on the status of various components of the complex, including completed works, ongoing activities and pending infrastructure.
According to officials, internal plumbing, granite work on service staircases, installation of door and window frames, and plastering have been completed. Work on other components of the project is currently underway.
Rather directed the concerned departments and executing agencies to increase manpower and resources to speed up the remaining work while maintaining prescribed quality standards. He also called for continuous monitoring of progress and prompt resolution of bottlenecks affecting execution.
The Speaker said the new Assembly complex is an important institutional project intended to provide modern facilities for the functioning of the Legislature and stressed the need to adhere to the October 2027 completion deadline.
Later, Rather chaired a review meeting and reiterated that all stakeholders should work in coordination to ensure timely completion and operationalisation of the complex.
The meeting was attended by Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Manoj Kumar Pandit, Chief Engineer Mechanical, Superintending Engineer Roads and Buildings and other senior officials.
Separately, the Speaker reviewed preparations at the old Assembly complex ahead of the Darbar Move and directed the Estates Department and other agencies to undertake necessary repairs, renovation and maintenance works before the shifting of offices.
He also asked officials to factor in the requirements of the National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA) project while carrying out renovation works. Rather stressed the need to ensure adequate infrastructure for the smooth implementation of the digital legislative platform and efficient conduct of Assembly proceedings.
