SRINAGAR: In a move aimed at addressing growing parking shortages and traffic congestion in Jammu city, the Omar Abdullah-led government has approved two major parking infrastructure projects worth ₹49.34 crore.
The projects include a Parking-cum-Commercial Complex at Parade and a Multi-Level Car Parking Facility at SMGS Hospital, both intended to improve traffic management and ease parking pressure in some of the city’s busiest areas.
According to officials, the projects have received administrative approval and form part of the government’s broader efforts to strengthen urban infrastructure and promote planned development in Jammu.
The proposed facilities are expected to create organised parking spaces at key locations, helping reduce roadside parking and traffic bottlenecks while making better use of available urban land.
Officials said the projects would benefit commuters, patients, visitors and residents by providing improved parking facilities in high-density areas that witness heavy vehicular movement throughout the day.
The approval comes as Jammu continues to face increasing traffic and parking challenges due to rapid urban growth and rising vehicle numbers, prompting the government to focus on infrastructure measures aimed at improving mobility and urban convenience.
