JAMMU: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday said it arrested an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) posted at Police Post Talwara in Reasi district after allegedly catching him accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000.
According to the ACB, ASI Talib Hussain was arrested during a trap operation conducted in connection with a case registered under FIR No. 08/2026 at the ACB Police Station, Udhampur, under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
The Bureau said Hussain, who was serving as the investigating officer in a case, had allegedly demanded illegal gratification from a complainant in return for presenting a charge sheet against accused persons before a court.
After the complainant approached the ACB, a verification exercise was carried out, which reportedly confirmed the allegation of a bribe demand. Following this, the agency constituted a trap team headed by a Deputy Superintendent of Police-rank officer.
During the operation, the ACB claimed that the ASI was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting Rs 5,000 from the complainant. The accused was arrested on the spot and the alleged bribe amount was recovered from his possession in the presence of independent witnesses.
The Bureau said further investigation into the case is underway.
Officials said this was the second successful trap operation conducted by the ACB at Police Post Talwara in Reasi district during 2026.
