RAMBAN: The Inter-Division Union Territory-level Chess Championship 2026-27 concluded at Chanderkote on Thursday, with Jammu Division emerging victorious in all six categories of the competition.
Organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports in collaboration with the District Administration Ramban, the championship brought together around 59 players from the Jammu and Kashmir divisions in Under-14, Under-17 and Under-19 boys’ and girls’ categories.
The closing ceremony was presided over by Ramban MLA Arjun Singh Raju at Yatri Niwas, Chanderkote.
Officials said Jammu Division secured first place in all six categories, while Kashmir Division finished runners-up.
Addressing participants, the MLA urged coaches and technical officials to identify and nurture talented players through sustained coaching, mentoring and guidance. He stressed the importance of long-term player development to help young sportspersons compete at higher levels, including national championships.
Raju also encouraged participants to continue learning and improving their skills while pursuing excellence in sports.
He appreciated the efforts of the District Administration Ramban in facilitating the smooth conduct of the tournament.
The championship was held under the overall supervision of District Youth Services and Sports Officer Ramban, Nazir Hussain.
Officials said the event provided young chess players an opportunity to gain competitive exposure, improve their skills and prepare for higher-level competitions.
