SRINAGAR: Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology and Environment, and Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana, on Tuesday paid tributes to Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah on his 44th death anniversary.
Rana offered prayers at Hazratbal and remembered Sheikh Abdullah as a key political figure in Jammu and Kashmir whose contributions, he said, had a lasting impact on the region’s political, social and economic landscape.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister described Sheikh Abdullah as a leader who remained committed to the interests of the people and worked towards public service, social justice and political participation.
Rana said Sheikh Abdullah’s political journey was marked by efforts to address inequality and expand the role of people in governance. Referring to his movement against hereditary rule, the Minister said it represented a significant phase in Jammu and Kashmir’s political history and sought greater public participation in the political process.
He also highlighted Sheikh Abdullah’s socio-economic reforms, stating that they aimed to address social inequalities and strengthen the position of ordinary people.
Rana further said Sheikh Abdullah played an important role in institution-building and in strengthening public systems that continued to influence the region’s administrative and developmental framework.
The Minister said Sheikh Abdullah’s legacy remained an important part of Jammu and Kashmir’s political and social history and continued to influence public discourse in the region.
