According to the university, the award recognises the achievement of the SKUAST-K One Health student team (SKUAOHUN) in the One Health Day 2025 International Student Competition, where it secured the top position among participating teams from 94 countries.

Dr Ayeman Qamri, an MVSc scholar in Veterinary Medicine, and Dr Shivam Srivastava, an MVSc scholar in Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics, received the award online on behalf of the student team. Video messages from the representatives were also screened during the award ceremony.

The university said the recognition was awarded for the team’s month-long hybrid initiative, “One Health Program-2025”, which focused on community engagement, awareness generation, education and interdisciplinary activities aimed at promoting the One Health concept linking human, animal and environmental health.

As part of the award, the team received an International Certificate of Excellence and a cash prize of USD 1,000.

The university said it has been working to institutionalise the One Health approach in Jammu and Kashmir and launched a structured roadmap in 2023, including the establishment of a School of One Health and collaborations with medical and veterinary institutions.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Nazir Ahmad Ganai congratulated the student team and faculty members associated with the initiative. He said the recognition reflected the university’s efforts in advancing transdisciplinary research, education and outreach under the One Health framework.

The university said it plans to further strengthen its One Health programmes through research, education and collaborative initiatives in the coming years.
