SRINAGAR: The upcoming autumn session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly is expected to witness a busy legislative agenda, with members submitting around 650 questions, 16-17 Private Member Bills and nearly 50 resolutions, sources said.
Officials told KNO that the Assembly Secretariat has received approximately 650 questions from legislators for the session scheduled to begin on September 21. Each MLA was allowed to submit eight questions, including four starred and four unstarred.
Sources said legislators from both the treasury and opposition benches have also submitted 16-17 Private Member Bills for consideration during the session.
Under Assembly procedures, private members can introduce bills, though such proposals rarely become law due to limited time allocated for their discussion. Only one or two days are generally reserved for Private Member Bills, while government bills introduced by ministers are usually given priority and are not subject to similar time constraints.
The Assembly Secretariat has also received around 50 Private Member Resolutions. According to the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the House, seven resolutions will be selected through a draw of lots for introduction during the session.
The selected resolutions will be scrutinised to determine their admissibility under the Assembly rules before being listed for discussion. (KNO)
