UDHAMPUR: The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) on Monday organised a “Chopal Pe Charcha” programme in Udhampur as part of the All India Congress Committee’s nationwide outreach campaign, with party leaders raising issues related to statehood, unemployment, inflation and the challenges faced by farmers and traders.
The programme, organised by District Congress Committee Udhampur and attended by senior Congress leaders and local residents, focused on a range of political and economic issues, including the alleged “Chanda Chori” issue, restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and rising cost-of-living concerns.
Addressing the gathering, JKPCC president Tariq Hameed Karra said the campaign was aimed at providing a platform for people to voice their concerns and engage directly with political representatives. He said the party would continue to raise the alleged “Chanda Chori” issue and seek transparency and accountability.
Karra also reiterated the Congress demand for restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, saying the issue remained a matter of concern among the people. He further expressed concern over unemployment, inflation and the economic difficulties being faced by various sections of society, including farmers, traders and youth.
JKPCC working president Raman Bhalla said the outreach programme was intended to take the party’s campaign to the grassroots level and provide an opportunity for direct interaction with the public. He alleged that concerns related to unemployment, inflation and other economic issues remained unresolved and called for greater attention to the problems faced by farmers, traders, students and working families.
Senior Congress leaders Balbir Singh and Thakur Manmohan Singh said unemployment, rising prices and challenges faced by farmers and traders emerged as key issues during the interaction. They called for measures to address employment concerns and provide support to affected sections of society.
District Congress Committee Udhampur president Sumit Magotra said the programme was organised to facilitate direct dialogue between the party and the public. He said issues raised by residents would be conveyed to the party leadership for further consideration.
Among those present were KC Bhagat, Vinod Khajuria, Gunjar Singh, Sunil Gupta, Suraj Chowdhary, Majid Hussain, Anil Pachiyala, Gopal Khajuria, Om Parkash, OP Khokhar, Madan Mathur, Shashi Manhas, Ashok Sharma and Riaz Ahmed, besides other Congress leaders, workers and local residents.
