POONCH: A Forest Department employee was allegedly assaulted while performing official duties in Poonch district, prompting the department to seek registration of an FIR against two persons accused of attacking the official.
According to a communication addressed to the SHO of Police Station Poonch by the Forest Range Officer, Haveli, the incident occurred at Banwat in Compartment No. 182/H of Forest Block Poonch during the extraction of departmental firewood meant for cremation purposes.
The department alleged that Abdul Majid, son of Aziza, and Mohd Aftab, son of Fazal Hussain, both residents of Banwat, attacked Beat Guard Mohd Shabir while he was on duty.
The communication stated that the Beat Guard sustained multiple injuries during the incident and his uniform was torn. It further alleged that other forest officials who attempted to explain the departmental firewood extraction process were also confronted during the altercation.
Seeking legal action, the Forest Department requested police to register a case under relevant provisions relating to assault on a public servant, manhandling, criminal intimidation and attempt to murder.
Police said they have taken cognisance of the matter and initiated necessary action. (GNS)
