ANANTNAG/HANDWARA: Police authorities in Anantnag and Handwara on Wednesday reviewed ongoing investigations, crime trends and security arrangements, with officers directed to strengthen preventive policing and take timely action against criminal and anti-social elements.
In Anantnag, SSP Amod Ashok Nagpure chaired an operations-cum-crime review meeting at District Police Office, attended by ASP North Camp Ashmuqam Rameez Raja, SDPOs, SHOs and police post in-charges.
The meeting reviewed registered cases, pending investigations, preventive measures and the overall law and order situation. Officers were directed to ensure timely and professional investigation, monitor pending cases and follow established procedures.
Particular focus was placed on cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Officers were directed to identify and act against drug suppliers, peddlers and repeat offenders, besides tracing financial networks and properties linked to drug trafficking wherever applicable.
Nagpure also called for stronger beat policing, prompt action against elements involved in criminal or anti-social activities and timely redressal of public grievances.
In Handwara, SSP Tahir Saleem Khan chaired a security review meeting at District Police Headquarters with gazetted officers, SHOs, duty officers and in-charges of various police components.
The meeting covered investigations under the NDPS and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), identification of security hotspots, social media surveillance, deployment patterns, vulnerability mapping and preventive security measures.
Officers were directed to intensify patrolling and checking, strengthen naka arrangements and maintain regular visits to vulnerable and sensitive areas. The SSP also called for stronger beat policing and closer engagement with residents to identify potential security concerns at an early stage.
Women’s safety was also reviewed, with directions for increased vigilance around educational institutions, markets and other vulnerable locations and prompt handling of complaints concerning women and girls.
The Handwara SSP further stressed coordination among police, the Army and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), along with regular information sharing, to respond to emerging security challenges. Officers were also directed to give priority to timely and transparent redressal of public grievances.
