Leh: Ladakh Director General of Police (DGP) Anand Jain has emphasized the need for close cooperation, coordination and synergy among all stakeholders to ensure peace, security and stability in the sensitive border areas of the Union Territory.

The Ladakh Police chief made the remarks during his visit to the vibrant village of Chumur, where he paid homage at a local monastery and interacted with security personnel deployed in the border area, before concluding his three-day tour of Changthang district, a police spokesman said on Sunday.

The DGP’s tour was aimed at reviewing policing infrastructure, strengthening public-police relations, and assessing developmental and security-related aspects in the region.

During the comprehensive tour, Jain was received by locals with warm traditional welcome. The DGP interacted with the public at Chumathang, where he patiently listened to the grievances and concerns raised by local residents, the spokesman said.

Jain assured the public that their genuine issues would be taken up with the concerned authorities for appropriate action.

He was also accorded a guard of honour at Nyoma police station.

During his visit, the DGP thoroughly inspected the police station, including office records, infrastructure, and barracks of the police personnel, and appreciated the efforts of the officers and jawans serving in the challenging terrain of Changthang, the spokesman said.

Subsequently, a public meeting was also held at the District Police Office, Changthang, which was among others attended by ‘Nambardars’ (village heads) of Nyoma, Mudh, and Nidder, along with prominent citizens of the area.

The DGP patiently heard public issues and assured continued support from the police administration, the spokesman said.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Changthang, Syed Zaheer Abbas Jafari briefed the DGP on the developmental initiatives, achievements, and community-oriented policing efforts undertaken by district police, he said.

As part of the awareness initiatives, the spokesman said a bike rally on the theme ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat’ was organized, which was flagged off by the DGP in the presence of police personnel and local villagers, spreading the message of a drug-free society.

Later, Jain proceeded to Korzok, Tsomoriri, where he inaugurated a newly constructed prefabricated hut established for use as a police check post and accommodation for personnel deployed for tourist assistance.

During a public interaction at Korzok, local residents requested year-round deployment of police personnel, as the existing deployment was seasonal, the spokesman said.

He said the police chief assured the public that their demand would be examined positively and efforts would be made to ensure continuous police presence.
