Srinagar: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday hoisted the National Flag at Lok Bhavan on the occasion of the nation’s 80th Independence Day and called for collective efforts towards inclusive growth, women’s empowerment, job creation and environmental sustainability.
A ceremonial police contingent presented the national salute during the function.
Paying tributes to freedom fighters who laid down their lives for the country, the Lieutenant Governor also remembered civilians who lost their lives in natural calamities this year.
“On this historic day, I join all citizens in paying heartfelt tributes to our founding fathers and the valiant sons and daughters of Mother India who sacrificed their lives for the country’s freedom,” Sinha said.
He said the greatest tribute to martyrs and freedom fighters would be to work with integrity and safeguard the nation’s hard-earned freedom.
The Lieutenant Governor expressed confidence in India’s emergence as a global leader and stressed the need to build an inclusive society that places public welfare at its core.
He called for balanced growth, economic empowerment of women, greater opportunities for youth and sustained efforts towards environmental protection.
Sinha said initiatives such as heritage conservation, restoration of ancient monuments and large-scale afforestation reflected the administration’s commitment to sustainable development.
He also urged citizens to contribute actively towards the vision of a self-reliant Jammu and Kashmir and a developed India by 2047, stressing transparency and accountability in governance.
The Lieutenant Governor congratulated J&K Police and CAPF personnel who received gallantry medals on the eve of Independence Day and lauded sportspersons for bringing laurels to the Union Territory. He called upon citizens to renew their commitment to nation-building with dedication and sincerity.
