SRINAGAR: Police on Monday attached property worth around Rs 4 crore belonging to an alleged drug peddler in Budgam district, arrested a man accused of attempting to implicate another person in a false narcotics case and apprehended three persons in separate drug trafficking cases in Baramulla and Sopore.
A police spokesperson said Srinagar Police attached an immovable property belonging to Fayaz Ahmad Dar of Ichgam, Budgam, under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The property, attached by Police Station Khanyar in connection with a case registered under Sections 8/21 of the NDPS Act, comprises a two-storeyed residential house with an attic and 31,800 square feet of land at Ichgam. Police said the property was attached under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act after it was identified as an illegally acquired asset allegedly generated through proceeds of drug trafficking.
In a separate case, police arrested Tariq Ahmad Sofi of Zainakot, Srinagar, for allegedly conspiring to frame the husband of his former girlfriend in a narcotics case.
Police said a suspicious parcel dispatched from outside Jammu and Kashmir and addressed to a resident of Safapora in Ganderbal was intercepted at the local post office on Saturday. An FIR was registered and an investigation launched.
The parcel was opened in the presence of an Executive Magistrate, FSL and Crime teams, and a sniffer dog squad. Laboratory analysis confirmed the contents as approximately four kilograms of cocaine-mixed powder, 80 grams of charas and psychotropic tablets.
During the investigation, police found that the consignment had allegedly been arranged to falsely implicate the consignee. Investigators traced the conspiracy to the woman’s former partner, who allegedly organised the shipment through a contact outside the Union Territory.
Meanwhile, during naka checking at Jeel Bridge in Baramulla, police intercepted a car and arrested its occupants, Mohammad Saleem Qureshi and Aijaz Ahmad Mir, both residents of Nambla, Uri. Police said 10 grams and seven grams of a brown sugar-like substance were recovered from their possession. A case under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act has been registered and investigation is underway.
In another operation, police arrested Mohammad Nasir Khuroo of Bohripora, Sopore, during naka checking at Bagh-e-Sundri Crossing after recovering a psychotropic substance from his possession. A case under Section 8/22 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Sopore.
Police said further investigation is underway in all the cases to identify the source of the narcotics and ascertain the involvement of other persons.
