SRINAGAR: Police in Srinagar claimed to have arrested a “habitual fraudster”, Ubaid Maqbool Khawaja of Gomal Chek, Tangdar, presently residing at Habib Colony, Alochi Bagh for his alleged complicity in fraud.
A police spokesperson said that the accused has defrauded and duped several businessmen and shopkeepers through fraudulent means and impersonation. Multiple complaints have been received against him from different parts of the Valley, and multiple FIRs are registered against him at various police stations. These include FIR No. 76/2022 under Section 430 IPC at Police Station Kothibagh and FIR No. 83/2023 under Sections 201, 379, 416 and 430 IPC at Police Station Pulwama.
The accused has also previously been detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA) in view of his continued involvement in criminal activities.
Further investigation is underway to establish his wider network and ascertain his involvement in other instances of fraud.
