SRINAGAR: Principal Secretary, Culture Department, Brij Mohan Sharma, and Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Anshul Garg, on Saturday reviewed preparations for the Tiranga Rally scheduled from Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) to the Botanical Garden on August 12 and the Independence Day celebrations at Bakshi Stadium.
At a meeting held at the Tourist Reception Centre (TRC), officials discussed arrangements related to public participation, security, transport, cultural programmes and civic amenities for the events.
Sharma directed departments to make arrangements aimed at increasing public participation in the rally. He asked for installation of selfie points at SKICC and the Botanical Garden and deployment of National Cadet Corps (NCC) volunteers to assist participants. He also directed the Roads and Buildings Department to undertake decorative work along the rally route and asked the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) to install national flags on electric poles.
He stressed adherence to the Flag Code and reviewed plans for exhibitions, stalls, cultural programmes and band performances. Officials also discussed a proposed Shikara Tiranga Rally on Dal Lake as part of the celebrations.
Divisional Commissioner Garg reviewed transport arrangements and directed departments to ensure timely mobilisation of participants. He also called for comprehensive security measures along the rally route and at event venues.
A committee comprising officials from the SMC, Police and Sainik Welfare Department will monitor compliance with the Flag Code during the events, officials said.
The meeting also reviewed arrangements for drinking water, power supply, sanitation, medical facilities and ambulance deployment. Garg directed the establishment of first-aid camps and emergency response facilities at strategic locations.
Reviewing preparations for the Independence Day function at Bakshi Stadium, the Divisional Commissioner issued directions regarding parade contingents, band performances, security passes, cultural programmes, traffic management and seating arrangements.
He also reviewed plans for illumination of government buildings, deployment of medical personnel, sanitation measures and coordination among departments. Participants will be sensitised about the protocol to be observed during the hoisting of the National Flag and singing of the National Anthem, officials said.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, heads of departments and representatives of various civil, security and educational institutions.
