SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir is likely to witness intermittent rain and thundershowers over the next 10 days, with isolated heavy rainfall expected between August 9 and 11, according to the latest weather forecast.
The forecast said light to moderate rain or thundershowers are expected at many places from August 6 to 8, while brief intense showers may occur at isolated locations.
A fresh spell of wetter weather is likely between August 9 and 11, with moderate rainfall expected across many parts of the Union Territory. Some districts may receive heavy rain or brief intense showers during the period.
The Meteorological Department has warned that isolated heavy rainfall could trigger flash floods, landslides, mudslides and shooting stones in vulnerable areas. It also cautioned about a possible rise in water levels in local streams and rivulets and temporary disruption to surface transport, particularly on hilly roads and the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
From August 12 to 15, weather conditions are expected to remain generally unstable, with light rain or thundershowers likely at many places and brief intense showers at isolated locations.
During the past 24 hours, Kathua recorded the highest rainfall at 81 mm, followed by Udhampur (66.6 mm), Katra (51 mm) and Samba (47 mm).
Authorities have advised residents, tourists and commuters to remain alert, especially in flood- and landslide-prone areas, and to check official weather advisories before undertaking travel.
