SRINAGAR: Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology and Environment, and Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana, on Tuesday reviewed the progress of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and directed officials to remove procedural bottlenecks affecting the implementation of drinking water supply schemes across the Union Territory.
Chairing a review meeting at the Civil Secretariat, Rana stressed the need for timely classification and work-wise release of funds to ensure uninterrupted execution of projects.
He said efficient financial management is essential for maintaining the pace of works and achieving the objectives of the Jal Jeevan Mission, adding that funds should reach the executing agencies without delay.
The Minister also directed officials to undertake a comprehensive review of the operational status of all water supply schemes to ensure their proper functioning and uninterrupted supply of potable drinking water.
During the meeting, the issue of releasing security deposits was also reviewed. Managing Director, Jal Jeevan Mission, informed the Minister that no cases relating to the release of security deposits were pending with the Mission Directorate and that all received cases were being processed in accordance with the prescribed procedures.
Rana also reviewed the progress of the Har Ghar Jal Certification initiative and asked officials to accelerate the certification process through better coordination with district administrations, implementing agencies and Gram Panchayats. He directed that all verification procedures be completed within the stipulated timeframe so that eligible villages are certified without delay.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to universal access to safe drinking water, the Minister called for close monitoring of ongoing projects and effective coordination at all levels to ensure timely completion and efficient operation of Jal Jeevan Mission schemes across the Union Territory.
