Srinagar: A total of 1,935 companies with women directors were registered under the Companies Act, 2013, in Jammu and Kashmir during the last three financial years, the Centre informed the Lok Sabha on Monday.

According to data tabled by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs and accessed by the Kashmir News Observer (KNO), J&K recorded 643 companies with 819 women directors in 2023-24, 561 companies with 676 women directors in 2024-25, and 731 companies with 856 women directors in 2025-26.

The Ministry clarified that the Companies Act does not specifically use the term “leaders of companies”. However, under Section 149 of the Act, certain listed and public companies are required to appoint at least one woman director.

The Centre said the Ministry has not launched any initiative exclusively for women entrepreneurs in rural and semi-urban areas. It added that measures aimed at improving ease of doing business, including simplified company incorporation and compliance procedures, are available to all entrepreneurs, including women.

The Ministry also informed the House that no specific programme had been organised in Maharashtra’s Akola district to promote women-led enterprises. It said the SPICe+ and AGILE-PRO-S integrated web-based system has been introduced to facilitate multiple registrations through a single-window platform.
