Srinagar: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Jammu and Kashmir, has filed a chargesheet against former Tehsildar of Qaziabad, Kralgund, Ghulam Rasool Bhat, and a private individual, Rafi Ahmad Lone, in an alleged ₹1 lakh bribery case before the Special Judge, Anti-Corruption, Baramulla.
According to the ACB, the chargesheet was filed in connection with FIR No. 04/2025 registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
The case was registered on the basis of a complaint alleging that a bribe was demanded for granting permission to cut walnut trees for commercial purposes. Following verification of the allegations, the ACB registered the case and initiated an investigation.
The bureau said that during a trap operation conducted on June 20, 2025, Bhat was allegedly caught red-handed at Kralgund, Handwara, while demanding and accepting the remaining bribe amount of ₹50,000. The tainted money was recovered in accordance with legal procedures, it said.
According to the ACB, both accused were arrested during the investigation and were subsequently released on bail by the court.
The bureau said that after completing the investigation and obtaining the required prosecution sanction from the competent authority, it filed the chargesheet before the Special Judge, Anti-Corruption, Baramulla, for judicial determination.
