Srinagar: The Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) Department has decided to undertake advance lifting and distribution of foodgrains for August, September and October under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) and Non-Priority Household (NPHH) schemes to ensure uninterrupted supply during the monsoon season.

According to the department, the advance distribution has been planned as a precautionary measure to address possible transportation and logistical disruptions caused by adverse weather.

The department has made advance allocation of foodgrains for the three months, enabling beneficiaries to collect their entitlement through a single transaction. The distribution exercise has been scheduled for completion by August 31.

To facilitate the process, the National Informatics Centre (NIC), J&K, has been requested to enable a one-time transaction facility on electronic point-of-sale (e-PoS) devices for the three-month distribution.

The FCS&CA Minister said the initiative would strengthen the department’s preparedness and help ensure uninterrupted food security for eligible beneficiaries during the monsoon.

Commissioner Secretary, FCS&CA, said the advance lifting, transportation and distribution of foodgrains would be carried out in coordination with the Food Corporation of India (FCI), the Jammu and Kashmir Road Transport Corporation (JKRTC) and the district administrations.

The department has directed the Directors of FCS&CA Jammu and Kashmir to personally monitor the lifting, transportation and distribution process to ensure that the exercise is completed within the stipulated timeline and that no eligible beneficiary is deprived of their entitlement.

Instructions have also been issued to field officers, Fair Price Shop dealers and other stakeholders to complete the distribution by August 31.
