Srinagar: Police on Sunday said it has arrested three drug peddlers in separate operations in Anantnag and Awantipora and recovered a significant quantity of contraband substances from their possession.
In Anantnag, police during checking at Kanganhal, intercepted and later arrested one Zubair Majeed Lone of Tailwani after 1.7 Kgs of Ganja powder-like substance was recovered from his possession.
At Doodhnaad, Waghama, police arrested one Imran Nazir Dass of Waghama, Bijbehara. Another accused identified as Irshad Ahmad Dass managed to flee from the spot, and efforts are on to nab him, police said, adding that during search, two bags containing 7.1 Kgs of poppy straw were from the spot.
In Awantipora, police apprehended one Saqib Bashir Bhat of Khanmoh, Srinagar after 3.21 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from his possession.
Cases under relevant sections of the NDPS Act have been registered at respective police stations and further investigations have been taken up, police said.
