Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir BJP president and Member of Parliament Sat Sharma and Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma on Friday reviewed preparations for the party’s proposed Secretariat Gherao March scheduled to be held in Srinagar on July 20.
The review meeting, held at the party office in Church Lane, Srinagar, was attended by state office-bearers, district presidents, district prabharis and morcha presidents. The leaders assessed organisational arrangements, coordination among party units, mobilisation of workers and logistical preparations for the proposed march.
According to the BJP, the march will begin from Ghanta Ghar at Lal Chowk and proceed towards the Civil Secretariat as a peaceful protest. The party said the demonstration is being organised to raise issues including alleged corruption, governance and policies affecting youth and democratic institutions.
During the meeting, the party discussed the agenda for the protest and reiterated its demand for action against corruption, besides seeking greater transparency and accountability in governance.
The BJP leaders also expressed concern over what they described as delays in strengthening and operationalising Panchayati Raj Institutions, saying grassroots democratic bodies should be empowered without further delay.
The meeting was attended by BJP General Secretary Anwar Khan, Secretaries Arif Raja and Mudasir Wani, state office-bearers Sartaj Majeed, Sajad Raina, Advocate Sajid Yousuf Shah and Bilal Parray, party spokespersons Altaf Thakur, Sahil Bashir, Manzoor Bhat and Danish Bhat, besides district prabharis, district presidents and other senior party leaders.
