BJP Sports Cell organises chess championship in Jammu

Thirty-two players participate in tournament held at party headquarters in Trikuta Nagar

Jammu: The BJP Sports Cell on Tuesday organised a chess championship at the party headquarters in Trikuta Nagar, Jammu, with 32 players participating in the tournament.

The concluding ceremony was attended by J&K BJP president and Rajya Sabha MP Sat Sharma and the party’s General Secretary (Organisation), Ashok Koul. BJP vice-presidents Priya Sethi, Rajiv Charak and Rekha Mahajan, General Secretary Sanjita Dogra and other party leaders were also present.

Organised by the BJP Sports Cell under the leadership of its convenor Kuldeep Gupta with the support of the All J&K Chess Association (JKCA), the tournament was conducted under the supervision of Chief Arbiter Arvindu Sharma.

Addressing the participants, Sharma said sports play an important role in developing discipline, confidence and leadership qualities among youth. He said the party would continue organising similar sporting events to encourage young talent and promote a sporting culture in Jammu and Kashmir.

Speaking on the occasion, Koul said the response to the championship reflected the growing interest of young people in chess and other competitive sports. He added that the BJP remained committed to promoting sports alongside education, culture and social service.
