Srinagar: Commissioner Secretary, Housing and Urban Development Department (H&UDD), Mandeep Kaur on Tuesday visited the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K) to review its green campus initiatives and explore their adoption in government projects.
According to an official statement, Kaur, accompanied by Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Commissioner Faz Lul Haseeb, inspected the university’s sustainability initiatives, including its zero-waste campus model, rainwater harvesting systems, sewage treatment plants (STPs) and plastic waste management practices.
She later held a meeting with SKUAST-K Vice Chancellor Prof Nazir Ahmad Ganai and senior university officials to discuss a roadmap for strengthening and expanding the institution’s sustainability initiatives.
The Commissioner Secretary appreciated the university’s environmental initiatives and said the department would explore replicating successful practices, particularly in water conservation and waste recycling, in urban development and other government projects.
The university assured the department of technical support and expertise to help advance sustainable development initiatives, the statement said.
