Karra criticises education system, announces candlelight marches over NEET issues
FacebookTwitterWhatsapp

Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president Tariq Hameed Karra on Sunday criticised the Centre over alleged commercialisation of education and recurring examination paper leaks, and announced that the party would organise candlelight marches across Jammu and Kashmir over issues concerning NEET aspirants.

Addressing a “Chhatron Ki Goonj” programme at Bishnah, organised by the District Congress Committees of Jammu Urban and Jammu Rural, Karra alleged that repeated paper leaks in examinations such as NEET had adversely affected students and demanded reforms in the examination system.

According to a party statement, Karra said the Congress would hold candlelight marches in all 20 districts and Assembly segments to pay tribute to NEET aspirants who allegedly died by suicide and to press for accountability, reforms in the education system and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

He alleged that repeated examination irregularities had undermined the careers of students and called for measures to ensure transparency and accountability in the conduct of competitive examinations.

Referring to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s outreach to students, Karra said the party had launched a campaign to highlight issues affecting students and youth and seek reforms in the education and recruitment systems.

Working president Raman Bhalla, former minister Yogesh Sawhney and District Congress Committee president Neeraj Kundan also addressed the gathering, during which students shared their experiences and suggestions regarding examination reforms, the statement said.

According to the statement, a two-minute silence was observed in memory of NEET aspirants who allegedly died by suicide.
