Srinagar: Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat on Saturday chaired a Union Territory-wide security review meeting at the Police Control Room, Kashmir, to assess security and logistical arrangements for the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra.
The meeting was attended by senior officers of the J&K Police, Army, Central Armed Police Forces, Traffic Police, Railway Police, intelligence agencies and other security organisations.
Officials reviewed security deployment, traffic management and implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) aimed at ensuring the smooth and secure conduct of the annual pilgrimage.
The DGP directed all agencies to maintain a high level of operational preparedness, strengthen inter-agency coordination and intensify area domination and night patrolling, particularly along the national highway, key road corridors and Yatra routes. He also instructed field formations to enhance surveillance and maintain a close watch on anti-social and disruptive elements across Jammu and Kashmir.
Prabhat emphasised strict verification of identity credentials and effective use of the RFID-based tracking system for real-time monitoring of registered pilgrims. He directed that issues involving unregistered pilgrims be handled proactively and in coordination with the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board while ensuring that only registered yatris are allowed to undertake the pilgrimage in accordance with prescribed protocols.
Reviewing disaster preparedness, the DGP instructed agencies to keep contingency plans and adequate resources ready to respond to weather-related emergencies, including evacuation, shelter, medical assistance and other essential support.
He also stressed the need to ensure security and assistance for both pilgrims and tourists across the Union Territory and directed officers to remain accessible, responsive and people-friendly while providing prompt assistance to devotees.
Expressing confidence in the coordinated efforts of the police and other security agencies, the DGP said the ongoing Amarnath Yatra would continue to be conducted safely and peacefully through sustained vigilance and inter-agency cooperation.
