Police attach Rs 36 lakh property in Handwara NDPS case; four held in Bandipora, Sopore

Srinagar: Police on Saturday attached a residential property worth approximately Rs 36 lakh in Handwara in connection with a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, while four alleged drug peddlers were arrested in separate operations in Bandipora and Sopore.

According to a police statement, the attached property at Ucher Magam in Handwara belongs to Anayatullah Khan, son of Hameedullah Khan. Police alleged that the house had been renovated using proceeds from illicit narcotics trafficking.

The accused is involved in FIR No. 85/2026 registered at Handwara Police Station under Sections 8 and 20 of the NDPS Act. Police said the attachment was carried out as part of the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan aimed at targeting assets allegedly acquired through the proceeds of the illegal drug trade.

In a separate development, police claimed to have busted an alleged drug trafficking module in Hajin area of Bandipora by arresting three persons and recovering 4.090 kg of a charas-like substance during naka checking at Madwan.

The arrested persons were identified as Sayar Ahmad Malla, son of Abdul Rahim Malla, Mehraj Ud Din Hajam, son of Ghulam Mohammad Hajam, both residents of Madwan, and Aamir Tariq Ganie, son of Tariq Ganie, a resident of Bangar Mohalla, Hajin.

Police said an FIR (No. 87/2026) has been registered at Hajin Police Station under the relevant provisions of law, and further investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, in Sopore, police arrested Aaqib Rasool Sheikh, son of Ghulam Rasool Sheikh, a resident of Shahabad, during patrolling at Butpora. A charas-like substance was allegedly recovered from his possession.

An FIR (No. 166/2026) has been registered at Sopore Police Station under the relevant provisions of law, and further investigation is in progress, police said.
