Jammu: The Special Director General (SDG) of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Vitul Kumar on Wednesday reviewed the force’s operational preparedness and security arrangements for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, reaffirming its commitment to ensuring a safe and secure pilgrimage.

The 57-day annual pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine of Amarnath will commence on July 3 through the twin routes — the traditional 48-km Nunwan-Pahalgam track in Anantnag district and the shorter but steeper 14-km Baltal route in Ganderbal district.

The yatra will conclude on August 28, coinciding with Raksha Bandhan.

According to the CRPF, Kumar chaired a high-level review meeting with Inspector General (IG) CRPF Jammu Sector Amol V Homkar and other senior commanders of the force in the Jammu and Kashmir Zone to assess operational readiness and security arrangements for the pilgrimage.

“SDG CRPF Vitul Kumar chaired a meeting with Amol V Homkar, IG CRPF Jammu Sector, and commanders at J&K Zone to assess operational preparedness and security arrangements for Amarnath Yatra,” the force said in a post on X.

During the meeting, SDG CRPF Kumar reviewed deployment plans, coordination mechanisms and security measures put in place for the smooth conduct of the pilgrimage.

He reiterated the force’s commitment to providing a safe and secure environment for pilgrims.

Kumar, accompanied by Additional Director General (ADG) CRPF J&K Zone Rajesh Kumar, visited the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas base camp in Jammu to inspect arrangements and review security preparedness at the base camp for pilgrims earlier.

The SDG CRPF directed officers and personnel to maintain the highest level of alertness and professionalism to ensure a safe, secure and hassle-free pilgrimage for devotees.

As part of the security build-up, CRPF personnel have also been conducting intensive preparedness and alertness exercises along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, particularly in Udhampur and Ramban districts, officials said.

The CRPF plays a key role in the multi-layered security grid established for the annual pilgrimage, which attracts lakhs of devotees from across the country.
