SRINAGAR: Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology and Environment and Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana, along with Minister for Agriculture Production and Rural Development, Javid Ahmad Dar, on Thursday reviewed the irrigation scenario in Ganderbal district with a special focus on water availability in tail-end areas.

The Ministers took note of complaints from farmers and residents regarding inadequate irrigation facilities in several parts of the district, particularly in tail-end regions, and directed the concerned officers to undertake a detailed assessment of the situation.

They stressed the need to ensure equitable distribution of irrigation water so that farmers across all areas receive adequate supply during the peak agricultural season.

Speaking on the occasion, Javed Ahmed Rana said ensuring fair and adequate water supply to every farmer, especially those living in tail-end areas, remains a priority for the government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

“No farmer should be left without water due to inefficiencies in distribution,” he said.

The Minister directed officers to conduct on-the-spot inspections and undertake regular field visits to closely monitor the irrigation situation and ensure prompt redressal of grievances raised by farmers.

The Ministers observed that strengthening irrigation infrastructure and addressing water shortages are essential for safeguarding agricultural productivity and supporting the farming community. They instructed the concerned departments to take immediate corrective measures wherever deficiencies are identified and ensure efficient functioning of irrigation channels across the district.

Javid Ahmad Dar said agriculture forms the backbone of the rural economy and timely irrigation support is crucial for sustaining farmers’ livelihoods.

“We will continue to work closely with the Jal Shakti Department to resolve these issues on priority, and all efforts will be made to address the concerns of farmers swiftly,” he said.

The Ministers directed the concerned officers to examine the matter on a war-footing basis and take immediate steps to address deficiencies, particularly in tail-end areas, so that farmers do not face hardship during the ongoing agricultural season.
