Srinagar: As part of the ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan’, police in Anantnag have in the first two months of the campaign, registered a total of 172 FIRs under various provisions of the NDPS Act and arrested 156 drug peddlers involved in narcotics trafficking and related activities.

Police in the district have also seized more than 323.5 kilograms of contraband substances and recovered ₹26,50,000 in cash linked to narcotics trafficking during multiple operations conducted across the district, a police spokesperson informed Thursday.

He also informed that properties in 29 cases, valued at approximately ₹12.5 crore, were attached under the relevant provisions of law, while four properties worth nearly ₹3.76 crore, identified as “proceeds of narcotics trafficking”, were demolished, taking the total value of properties acted upon to approximately ₹16 crore.

Police also destroyed illegal narcotic cultivation spread over nearly 350 marlas of land during the period. Furthermore, over 1,606 kilograms of narcotic substances were destroyed after completion of all legal formalities, spokesperson said.

He said police also retrieved more than 300 marlas of government land from the illegal encroachment of drug peddlers. The campaign witnessed the arrest of three female drug peddlers and four female cultivators involved in narcotics-related activities.

Additionally, three government employees were found involved in drug-related cases, and legal action has been initiated against them in accordance with the law.

To strengthen preventive measures against habitual offenders and major drug traffickers, 119 drug peddlers were subjected to preventive action under relevant laws, while three notorious drug peddlers were detained under the PIT-NDPS Act.

In coordination with the concerned authorities, 17 driving licences (DLs) and nine registration certificates (RCs) of vehicles were cancelled for involvement in narcotics-related offences.

As part of sustained enforcement and area domination measures, police conducted 180 Narco-CASOs (Cordon and Search Operations) across the district to curb the movement, distribution and supply of narcotic substances, he said.
