Three drug peddlers held in Pulwama & Shopian

Srinagar: Police in Pulwama arrested two drug peddlers and recovered heroin and cannabis-like contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesperson informed Thursday.

He said police intercepted a motorcycle (PB08CC-8542) near Hanfia Model School, Lajoora and recovered 8 grams of heroin and approximately 3.5 grams of cannabis-like substance from the possession of two riders — Prince Sharma of Akhnoor, Jammu, and Jagjeet Singh of Chattergam, Tral, Awantipora. Both were arrested on the spot and the motorcycle seized.

Police also claimed unearthing an underground drug hideout and recovering a huge quantity of contraband substance during a special operation at Pashpora Keegam in Shopian.

Acting on specific information that Mohammad Iqbal Bhat of Pashpora Keegam, had concealed narcotics in an underground hideout in his Apple orchards, police raided the specified location and recovered 28.968 kilograms of crushed cannabis from there. The accused person was arrested and a case registered under the NDPS Act at Police Station Shopian.

Further investigation is underway to establish forward and backward linkages and to identify other individuals involved in the illegal drug trade, police said.
