Khour: Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Information Technology, Youth Services & Sports, and Science & Technology, Satish Sharma on Sunday reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the welfare of border residents, infrastructure development, employment generation and transparent governance while addressing a public gathering at the historic Royal Palace in Khour.

The visit witnessed enthusiastic public participation, with delegations, social organisations, youth groups and local representatives raising issues related to border villages, infrastructure, healthcare, education, road connectivity, employment and welfare schemes.

Addressing the gathering, Sharma said the government remains sensitive to the challenges faced by people living in border areas and is committed to ensuring their safety, security and socio-economic upliftment. He assured residents that all genuine concerns would receive priority attention.

Highlighting the issue of compensation for families affected by shelling and conflict-related incidents, the Minister said timely and adequate relief for affected residents remains a priority and that the government will continue to advocate comprehensive support measures.

Referring to recent hostilities along border areas, Sharma said the administration successfully evacuated nearly 70,000 people from vulnerable locations to safer places through coordinated efforts of various departments, with the Jammu and Kashmir Road Transport Corporation playing a key role in the operation.

On the occasion, the Minister handed over appointment orders to newly selected Anganwadi Workers and described them as an important pillar of grassroots welfare delivery. He said Anganwadi Workers play a crucial role in maternal and child health, nutrition, early childhood education and community outreach, urging them to discharge their duties with dedication and sincerity.

Reviewing departmental functioning, Sharma directed officers to remain accessible to the public and ensure prompt redressal of grievances. He stressed the need for transparency, accountability and efficient service delivery, warning that negligence and unnecessary delays would not be tolerated.

The Minister also informed the gathering that several development projects are in the pipeline for Khour and adjoining areas, including initiatives aimed at improving road connectivity, strengthening public infrastructure, expanding digital services and enhancing educational and sports facilities.

Calling for active public participation in the development process, Sharma said meaningful progress can only be achieved through cooperation between the government and the people, and urged citizens to work collectively towards a prosperous and self-reliant Jammu and Kashmir.
