Srinagar: Srinagar Police have attached movable and immovable properties worth crores belonging to alleged drug traffickers in separate actions under the NDPS Act, officials said on Friday.
The action, carried out by police stations in Lal Bazar and Khanayar in Srinagar, as well as elsewhere in other districts, is part of the ongoing anti-narcotics campaign under the ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyaan’, a police spokesperson said.
In one case, a double-storey residential house built on nine marlas of land and owned by Aadil Ahmad Dhobi of Sikh Bagh in Lal Bazar was attached under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act, he said.
A vehicle linked to Dhobi was also attached during the proceedings, he added.
In another action by Lal Bazar police station, a vehicle belonging to Arshid Ahmad Sheikh of Haka Bazar was attached under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act.
Separately, Khanyar police station attached a double-storey residential house along with 12 marlas of land, valued at around Rs 2 crore, belonging to Owais Hussain of Tangbagh, Khanayar, the spokesperson said.
Hussain is an accused under Sections 8, 20, and 29 of the NDPS Act at the Khanyar police station, he said.
In Anantnag, police attached a double-storied residential house along with a high-density apple orchard belonging to Mohammad Ashraf Dar of Tulkhan under the provisions of Section 68-F of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
Police in Ganderbal also attached immovable properties worth approximately ₹2.13 crores under the provisions of Section 68-F(1) of the NDPS Act in connection with FIR No. 23/2024, registered under sections 8/21, 29 NDPS Act at Police Station Lar.
The attached properties, situated at Zainakote, Srinagar, are registered in the names of Parvaiz Ahmad Hanga and his wife Tabassum Parvaiz, residents of Karfali Mohalla, Srinagar, police said.
Police also attached a residential property in Kishtwar district. Police said the action was taken under the NDPS Act following a financial investigation conducted in connection with cases registered at Kishtwar Police Station against Muzaffer Hussain and Mudassir Hussain.
During investigations, all these properties were identified as allegedly acquired through proceeds of drug trafficking and were attached after completion of legal formalities, police said.
A shop belonging to “notorious” drug peddler Mohammad Younis Qureshi resident of Basmani Bathnoor was also demolished, police said, adding that Qureshi is involved in multiple cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and has been identified as a habitual offender engaged in drug trafficking activities.
“The demolished structure had been raised illegally and was used as a source of financial gain derived from illicit narcotics related activities,” police said.
Police in Anantnag also conducted extensive raids in various hotels located in the Mavoora, Rafting Point, and Yanner areas of Pahalgam Sub-Division.
“Multiple hotel premises were searched based on credible inputs, with the objective of preventing the use of tourist accommodations for narcotics-related activities and strengthening vigilance against drug networks,” a police spokesperson said.
4 drug peddlers held in Anantnag
Police in Anantnag arrested four drug peddlers in three separate operations and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesperson informed.
He said during routine naka checking at TB Shah–Harnag Crossing, police apprehended one Mehraj-ud-Din Bhat of Batpora Anantnag. During his search, approximately 580 grams of grinded cannabis was recovered from his possession.
In another operation, a police officer during naka checking at Brinty apprehended two persons identified as Yawar Ahmad Itoo, resident of Wateigam Wanihama, and Abid Hussain Bhat, resident of Brinty Batpora. During their search, approximately nine grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from their possession.
At Halmulla, police arrested Shabbu, a resident of Khamaria Pandri, P.O. Pauta Kalan, District Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh, presently residing at Pujteng, Sangam. During his personal search, four cannabis sticks-like substances weighing approximately 70 grams were recovered from his possession.
Cases under Section 8/20 NDPS Act have been registered at respective police stations for investigation in all these instances.
Meanwhile, the Court of Munsiff/Judicial Magistrate 1st Class, Dangiwacha, convicted the accused in an NDPS case registered at Police Station Dangiwacha, spokesperson said.
He identified the convicted person as Kamar Abbas, resident of Kunfer, Chanderkote, Ramban. The case was registered after contraband was recovered from the possession of the accused.
The case culminated in conviction of the accused by the court under Section 8/15 of the NDPS Act, with a sentence of two months’ rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of ₹5,000.
