SRINAGAR: Fresh spells of rainfall and generally cloudy weather are likely to affect several parts of Jammu and Kashmir over the next three days, prompting weather experts to advise orchardists against undertaking spraying operations until conditions improve.

According to the forecast, many areas across the Union Territory are expected to receive intermittent showers on June 4 and June 5, accompanied by generally overcast skies.

The unsettled weather is likely to persist on June 6 as well. While conditions may remain mostly fair during the first half of the day, thundershowers are expected to develop in some areas during the late afternoon and evening hours.

In view of the prevailing weather conditions, orchard spraying has not been recommended from June 4 to June 6.

The forecast indicates a gradual improvement in weather from June 7 onwards, with generally dry and stable conditions expected across Jammu and Kashmir through June 9. However, isolated areas may continue to witness brief thundershowers during late afternoon or evening hours.

Orchardists have been advised to undertake spraying operations during morning hours from June 7 onwards, when weather conditions are expected to remain comparatively stable and favourable.

Weather experts have also cautioned that intense showers, gusty winds and lightning strikes remain possible during the forecast period and urged residents, particularly farmers and orchard growers, to remain vigilant and keep track of local weather updates.

The advisory assumes significance for the horticulture sector as spraying operations during rainy or highly unstable weather can reduce the effectiveness of plant protection measures and result in economic losses for growers.
