4 drug peddlers held

Srinagar: Police have arrested four drug peddlers in Baramulla and Handwara, recovering contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesperson informed Monday.

He said a police party arrested one Shahid Ahmad of Bathipora Naidkhai, Sumbal, during checking at Babareshi Crossing . His Scooty (JK15C-1139) was also seized after 17 grams of cannabis-like substance was recovered from his possession.

Amandeep Singh of Khawajabagh, Baramulla, and Muzain Tanveer, resident of Khawajabagh, Baramulla, were arrested at Jani Chowk, Khawajabagh, after 487.5 grams of opium pods were recovered from their possession.

In Handwara, police arrested Aijaz Ahmad Bhat of Kralgund Handwara, at Waskoora Crossing, after Spasmo-Proxyvon Plus contraband substance was recovered from his possession,

Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations for investigation.

Meanwhile police in Anantnag destroyed illegally cultivated cannabis crop in the Bijbehara area and registered a case under the NDPS Act.

Acting on information, police apprehended one Gulzar Ahmad Mir of Batpora Marhama for having “illegally cultivated cannabis plants” on his privately owned land situated at Nai Basti, Marhama. A case was registered under Section 8/20(a) of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Bijbehara, and further investigation has been taken up.
