Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party on Monday voiced concern over the delay in conduct of Panchayat and Urban Local Bodies elections in Jammu and Kashmir and urged the authorities to hold the polls without further delay to strengthen grassroots democracy.
The issue was raised during a provincial-level meeting chaired by Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari in Jammu.
The meeting focused on reviewing the prevailing political situation in Jammu and Kashmir, discussing public issues and grievances and deliberating on organisational matters.
Senior leaders and prominent workers from across Jammu province attended the meeting.
According to the party, participants briefed the leadership about the political situation in their respective constituencies and highlighted several public concerns and local grievances.
During the meeting, party leaders criticised the elected government for what they described as its failure to address pressing public issues in Jammu and Kashmir.
They alleged that promises made during the election campaign, including 200 units of free electricity, free cooking gas cylinders, additional ration quota, one lakh jobs for youth and regularisation of daily wagers, remained unfulfilled.
The leaders also expressed concern over what they termed attempts by Jammu and Kashmir National Conference and Indian National Congress to communalise the situation in Jammu and Kashmir for political gain.
The party leadership urged district-level leaders and workers to intensify political and public outreach activities to remain connected with people at the grassroots level.
They also asked party cadres to remain prepared for the forthcoming Panchayat and ULB elections.
