Srinagar: Akshay Labroo on Monday presided over the valedictory function of the District Administration Srinagar’s Rolling Trophy Inter College Cricket Tournament 2026 held at SP College Srinagar under the Youth Empowerment and Engagement Programme.
The Deputy Commissioner attended the event as chief guest and felicitated the winning and runner-up teams with trophies, medals and certificates of appreciation.
The event was attended by Chief Planning Officer Srinagar Fayaz Ahmad Dar, Nodal Principal Kashmir Division Colleges Seema Naaz, IAS Probationer Alfred Thomas, Principal SP College Haris Izhar Tantray, Principal Gandhi Memorial College Masood Ahmad and District Youth Services and Sports Officer Ghulam Hassan besides students and faculty members from various colleges.
Addressing the gathering, Akshay Labroo said initiatives under the Youth Empowerment and Engagement Programme are aimed at providing constructive avenues for young people and encouraging participation in academic, cultural and sports-related activities.
He said such platforms help channelise youth energy in a positive direction and strengthen community engagement at the grassroots level.
The Deputy Commissioner said the District Administration Srinagar would continue organising similar events, including cultural, entrepreneurship and science and technology programmes throughout the year to nurture talent and promote a strong sports culture in the district.
He appreciated the efforts of the organising committee, Nodal Principal Colleges Kashmir, SP College and sports coordinators for ensuring smooth conduct of the tournament.
The DC said the event also promoted sportsmanship, youth engagement and awareness against social evils under the broader framework of the “Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan.”
Highlighting the harmful effects of drug abuse, Akshay Labroo also underlined the counselling, treatment and rehabilitation facilities available in Srinagar for individuals affected by substance abuse, particularly at IMHAANS and through the Tele-MANAS platform.
During the ceremony, the Deputy Commissioner felicitated the winning and runner-up teams and also honoured outstanding performers of the tournament.
In the men’s category, Gandhi Memorial College Srinagar lifted the title while Amar Singh College finished as runners-up.
Mozain was declared Player of the Match while Faheem was named Player of the Series.
In the women’s category, Government College for Women M A Road won the title while Gandhi Memorial College finished runners-up.
Masrat was declared both Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament for her all-round performance.
