Srinagar: Police have arrested six drug peddlers in separate actions in Baramulla, Anantnag and Kulgam, a police spokesperson informed Thursday.
He said in Baramulla, police arrested Sabbir Mumtaz of Trikanjan after a charas-like substance wrapped in polythene was recovered from his possession.
In Anantnag, police arrested a “most-wanted drug peddler” during checking at Shakras. The accused has been identified as Nasir Ahmad Dohbi of Sallar. During checking, the police recovered approximately five kilograms of charas powder-like substance from his possession.
During checking near Petrol Pump Achabal police apprehended one Irshad Ahmad Bhat of Magraypora after a heroin-like substance was recovered from the right pocket of his trouser.
At Chowgam Bridge in Kulgam, one Bilal Ahmad Hajam of Larkipora, Dooru was arrested. Approximately 4.5 kg of cannabis powder was recovered from his possession.
One Sameer Ahmad Sheikh of Bangedar, Anantnag was also arrested after his search yielded 157.7 grams of cannabis-like substance in the shape of four sticks wrapped in corn husk.
At link road Sopat near Sarnard, Nazir Ahmad Rather of Sopat Tangpora landed in police net after 2.6 kg of poppy straw-like substance was recovered from him.
Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigations have been initiated, police said.
