Srinagar, May 16: Gandhi Memorial College Srinagar on Saturday organised its Annual Cycle Race for Boys-2026 under the Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan, witnessing enthusiastic participation from students.
The race, organised by the college’s Physical Education Department, started from Nehru Park and concluded at Shalimar Garden.
Senior Superintendent of Police Srinagar City Aijaz Ahmad Bhat flagged off the event in the presence of Principal Masood Ahmad Malik, faculty members, officials and students.
Speaking on the occasion, the SSP highlighted the growing threat of drug abuse among youth and stressed the importance of sports and physical activities in promoting healthy and constructive engagement among students.
He appreciated the college administration for encouraging fitness, discipline and healthy lifestyles through such initiatives.
Principal Prof. Masood Ahmad Malik also praised the enthusiastic participation of students and reiterated the institution’s commitment towards promoting sports and co-curricular activities. He encouraged students to reduce excessive screen time and actively participate in outdoor and physical activities.
A large number of students took part in the event, displaying discipline and sportsmanship throughout the race. Adequate security and traffic arrangements were made with the support of Srinagar Traffic Police for smooth conduct of the programme.
The event concluded with a renewed call for promoting fitness, healthy lifestyles and positive youth engagement through sports activities.
