Srinagar: Police on Wednesday arrested seven drug peddlers in Anantnag, Sopore, Baramulla & Awantipora in separate actions and recovered contraband and psychotropic substances from their possession, a police spokesperson informed.
He said in Anantnag, police arrested Javid Ahmad Bhat of Melhora Wandana after over one kilogram of cannabis-like powder substance was recovered from his possession.
At Wagub Crossing in Sopore, contraband cannabis-like substance was recovered from the possession of Hafezullah Lone of Wagub. He was arrested on the spot.
In Baramulla, Faizan Ahmad Teli of Banglabagh, and Mudasir Ahmad Bhat of Mohalla Mir Sahib were found in an intoxicated condition near Suspension Bridge, Gousia Colony Baramulla. During their search, one syringe each was recovered from their possession.
One Abdul Rehman Malik alias Rehman Military of Kalantara was also found in a state of intoxication near Mukaam Bridge and was immediately apprehended.
In Awantipora, police arrested two persons near Frestabal after a cannabis-like substance weighing approximately 40.86 grams was recovered from their possession. The accused were identified as Peer Touseef of Bagander Pampore, and Arif Mushtaq of Badipora Chadoora.
Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations for further investigations, police said.
