Srinagar: Police arrested seven drug peddlers in Anantnag, Handwara and Sopore and recovered “substantial quantity” of contraband substances from them, a police spokesperson informed Friday.
He said in Anantnag, police registered four cases under NDPS Act and arrested five accused persons.
At Sagam Kokernag, police arrested Aqib Nissar Rangraze of Anantnag and Umar Yousuf Mahroo resident of Kishtwar and recovered 13.36 grams of heroin-like substance from their possession, the spokesperson said.
He said at Mehmoodabad Bridge, one Rameez Bashir Bhat of Tilwangund, was arrested, and 2.65 grams of a heroin-like substance was recovered from him.
At Gutligund, police arrested Sabzar Ahmed Sofi of Hallan Verinag after recovering 92 grams of cannabis powder from him.
At Khrety Lovlupora, one Adil Ahmad Sheikh of Larnoo was arrested after 2.300 kilograms of ‘ganja’ (marijuana) along with 18 grams of cannabis was recovered from his possession.
In Handwara, at Utingroo Badchatri, police arrested Bilal Ahmad Bhat of Drusu Jagir, Baramulla after cannabis-like contraband substance was recovered from his possession.
Similarly, at Sidiq Colony, Sopore, police arrested local resident Imran Ahmad Kana and recovered cannabis-like substance along with habit-forming drugs, including Buscopan, Vernor, and Prochlorperazine Maleate tablets.
Cases have been registered against all accused persons and further investigations are underway to uncover backward and forward linkages of the narcotics networks, police said.
