Srinagar: Three people lost their lives in separate road accidents reported from south and north Kashmir on Thursday, officials said.
In Anantnag, a youth was killed and another critically injured after a car overturned on KP Road in the Mattan area. The accident took place at Bumzoo when a Polo car (DL3CCN8591), travelling from Pahalgam towards Anantnag, lost control and overturned.
Both occupants were rushed to Sub-District Hospital Seer Hamdhan in critical condition. One of them, Umer Bashir Bhat of Pazalpora Bijbehara, later succumbed to his injuries. The second injured, Yawer Manzoor Lone, also from Pazalpora Bijbehara, remains in critical condition.
In a separate set of incidents in Kupwara’s Handwara area, two more fatalities were reported. A motorcyclist, Shahid Ahmad Shah of Maidan Chogal, died after his bike collided with a load carrier on the Handwara bypass road. He was shifted to GMC Handwara, where he was declared brought dead.
In another incident at Maratgam, a load carrier hit a 70-year-old woman, identified as Azi Begum. She sustained critical injuries and was taken to GMC Handwara, where doctors declared her brought dead.
Police have taken cognisance of all the incidents and initiated investigations.
