Baramulla: The Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) Baramulla has rolled out a series of inter-school zonal level competitions across the district under the Annual Sports Calendar 2026 and the ongoing Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan, aiming to channel youth energy towards sports and away from substance abuse.
In Zone Kunzer, an inter-school badminton competition for boys in Under-14 and Under-17 categories was held at the playfield of Higher Secondary School Kunzer, with participation from 32 teams representing both government and private institutions.
Zone Wagoora hosted an inter-school volleyball tournament for Under-14 boys at HS Watergam, drawing 180 students from various institutions. In Zone Nehalpora, inter-school volleyball tournaments for Under-14 and Under-17 girls were conducted at BMS Waripora, with participation of 70 students.
Similarly, Zone Chandanwari organised an inter-school volleyball tournament for Under-17 boys under the banner of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, where 96 students took part, showcasing talent and sportsmanship.
In Zone Singhpora Pattan, inter-school badminton competitions for both boys and girls in Under-14 and Under-17 categories commenced under the anti-drug campaign, with more than 100 participants taking part on the opening day.
Adding to the district-wide sporting activity, Zone Baramulla organised an inter-school badminton competition for Under-14 boys at Bipin Rawat Stadium. The event featured 26 teams in the doubles category and 23 teams in singles, with enthusiastic participation from students across institutions.
Speaking on the sidelines, DYSSO Baramulla Sheikh Shafqat Iqbal said the competitions are part of a structured sports calendar aligned with the anti-drug campaign, aimed at engaging youth in constructive activities and promoting a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.
