SRINAGAR: Alongside enforcement measures, Jammu Kashmir Police continued to intensify awareness campaigns under the 100-day anti-drug campaign across Kashmir.

Police said the sessions focused on encouraging youth to stay away from harmful influences and adopt a healthy, drug-free lifestyle, while also urging the community to actively support the ongoing campaign.

In Shopian, anti-drug awareness programmes were organised at Middle School Heerpora, Rainbow International School Shopian and Zainapora. The events were attended by students, teachers, police and civil administration officials, besides members of the Chemist Distributors Association.

Speakers highlighted the growing threat of substance abuse and its impact on individuals, families and society. Participants were also informed about the legal consequences of involvement in drug-related activities and were urged to spread awareness in their communities.

In Baramulla, police, in coordination with the Canine Police Unit, intensified counter-narcotics checking at several strategic locations in the district. Special checkpoints were established where vehicles and passengers were frisked with the assistance of trained sniffer dogs to detect narcotics and prevent drug trafficking.

Police said the operation aims to keep a strict watch on suspicious movement and deter drug peddling activities in the district.

Similarly, in Ganderbal, a series of anti-drug awareness programmes was held in educational institutions under the “Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan.” The main event was organised at Government Engineering College Safapora, where Deputy Superintendent of Police Headquarters Ganderbal Umer Urfan and DySP DAR Altaf Khan addressed the students.

The officers spoke about the growing menace of drug abuse and its impact on youth and society, urging students to remain vigilant, adopt healthy habits and contribute towards building a drug-free society.
