At a time when Jammu & Kashmir is moving steadily towards peace, development, and prosperity, a silent challenge continues to threaten the very foundation of society, the growing menace of drug abuse. It is not merely a health concern or law-and-order issue; it is a social crisis that is gradually entering homes, weakening families, and stealing the dreams of our youth.

Behind every case of addiction lies a heartbreaking story, a mother waiting anxiously for her child, a father struggling to save his son from destructive habits, and young aspirations fading into despair. Drug abuse does not only affect individuals; it devastates families, disrupts communities, and threatens the future of society.

Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha Ji has launched the 100-Day Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Campaign, a bold and timely initiative aimed at combating drug abuse through a comprehensive, coordinated, and community-driven approach. This decisive step reflects the administration’s deep concern for the youth and its unwavering commitment to building a healthy, safe, and progressive Jammu & Kashmir.

The 100-day campaign is not just an administrative exercise; it is a social awakening, a call for collective action. It seeks to transform the fight against drugs into a people’s movement, encouraging citizens from all walks of life to participate actively.

The launch of the 100-Day Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Campaign demonstrates strong leadership and proactive governance. The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor deserves appreciation for initiating a focused, time-bound mission that brings urgency and accountability to the fight against drug abuse.

This campaign reflects a compassionate and holistic approach, combining prevention, awareness, enforcement, rehabilitation, and community participation. By prioritizing youth welfare and social stability, the administration has taken a significant step towards safeguarding future generations.

Such initiatives require courage, commitment, and long-term vision. The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor’s leadership has sent a clear message i.e. the fight against drugs is a collective responsibility, and the government stands firmly with the people in this mission.

Equally commendable is the role played by the media in amplifying awareness and highlighting the urgency of the issue. Print, electronic, and digital media platforms have emerged as powerful allies in the fight against drug abuse.

Media has raised awareness about the dangers of drugs, highlighted success stories of recovery, reported government initiatives and community efforts, encouraged dialogue and public participation, brought attention to grassroots challenges. Through responsible journalism, the media has helped break the silence surrounding addiction and encouraged families to seek help. Their continuous coverage of anti-drug campaigns, awareness drives, and rehabilitation efforts has significantly strengthened the movement.

The media’s commitment to public welfare deserves sincere appreciation. By informing, educating, and mobilizing society, the media has become a pillar of social change in the fight against drugs.

Back to the main topic, drug addiction affects individuals across all sections of society, rural and urban, rich and poor, educated and uneducated. What often begins as curiosity or peer pressure gradually turns into dependency, leading to emotional distress, financial hardship, and social isolation.

Many families suffer in silence due to stigma and fear. Many youth who want to recover hesitate to seek help. This silence has allowed the problem to spread. It is time to break this silence and address the issue with compassion and determination.

The 100-Day campaign provides an opportunity to intensify efforts and take the message to every household. The success of the 100-Day Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Campaign depends on community participation. The campaign must reach villages, neighborhoods, schools, and homes.

Door-to-door awareness campaigns can educate families about early signs of addiction, prevention strategies, counseling and rehabilitation options, helpline services etc.  Such grassroots awareness ensures early intervention and community involvement.

Formation of community-based anti-drug committees at village and ward levels can strengthen monitoring and support systems. These committees can include Village elders, Teachers, Youth representatives, Religious leaders, Women members and Drug De-Addiction Centre experts. This approach fosters community ownership and accountability. Youth can be as Ambassadors of Change. Youth are the backbone of society and must lead the movement. Establishing youth clubs and organizing Sports tournaments, Cultural programs, Awareness rallies and Debate competitions can help channel youth energy positively. Parents must maintain open communication with their children and watch for behavioral changes. Family awareness programs can strengthen support systems and prevent addiction. Similarly, religious leaders can play a significant role by spreading awareness during gatherings and encouraging compassion and rehabilitation. Educational institutions must become drug-free zones through awareness programs, counseling services, and life skills education. Women, especially mothers, often notice early warning signs. Women-led awareness campaigns and self-help groups can strengthen prevention efforts.

Addiction must be treated with compassion. Rehabilitation centers, counseling services, and skill development programs must be strengthened to support recovery and reintegration. Sports and cultural activities provide healthy alternatives and help youth stay away from negative influences. Social media platforms can expand outreach and engage youth in awareness campaigns.

100 days Campaign is a shared responsibility. The fight against drugs requires participation from government agencies, Media, Parents, Youth, Teachers, Religious leaders, NGOs, Civil society. Each stakeholder has a crucial role to play.

The 100-Day Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Campaign has ignited hope and momentum. Communities are becoming more aware, families are speaking up, and youth are stepping forward. The leadership of the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor, combined with the proactive role of media and community participation, can transform this campaign into a lasting movement.

Let us pledge together: Every Home Drug-Free. Every Youth Empowered. Every Community Responsible. A Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir is not just a vision, it is a collective responsibility. Together, with strong leadership, responsible media, and active community participation, Jammu & Kashmir can overcome the challenge of drug abuse and build a healthier, safer, and brighter future for generations to come. Together, We Can Make Jammu & Kashmir Nasha Mukt.

A drug-free society is not built by laws alone, but by awakened hearts, responsible families, and united communities. Let us stand together today, so our youth can stand strong tomorrow.

“Every life saved from addiction is a family restored, a dream revived, and a future secured, let us not remain silent when our youth need us the most.”
